The first thing in the morning after waking up, apparently, most of us do is to head towards that lavatory to excrete for it’s a natural process. They say that one who egests once in a day is called a saint (yogi), twice is referred to as a foodie (bhogi) and the person who defecates thrice is known to be a patient (rogi). However, there exists a forth stratum too to which many people belong – the ones suffering from constipation. It is that ailment which is often not taken seriously but is potential of posing perils to our digestion procedure. Needless to say how imperative it is to have a healthy digestive system.

An unhealthy gut is home to innumerable diseases, being constipation one of them. We often succumb to the situation and likely to accept it the way it is but it should not be ignored that constipation can be just the precursor to other more destructive disorders.

1. Bad breath – Bad breath acts as an indicator that you may be constipated. When toxic waste remains in your body, gasses rise up to the mouth, giving a person putrid odors in their mouths.

1. Coffee – Your morning cup of coffee can does more than waking you up. Coffee can stimulate your colon and speed up your trip to washroom. Other hot beverages like herbal tea or a cup of hot water with a little lemon juice which acts as a natural laxative or honey may stimulate your colon as well. Coffee is also a diuretic, however, so make sure to keep drinking water or your constipation could become worse.


2. Castor oil – Castor oil is the remedy for constipation which has been handed down for generations. One of the primary uses for castor oil is as a laxative; take 1 to 2 teaspoons on an empty stomach and you should see results in about 8 hours. A component in the oil breaks down into a substance that stimulates your large and small intestines.

3. Mint or Ginger tea – Mint and ginger are both proven home remedies to help alleviate a slew of digestive problems. Peppermint contains menthol, which has an antispasmodic effect that relaxes the muscles of the digestive tract. Ginger is a warming herb that causes the inside of the body to generate more heat; herbalists say this can help speed up sluggish digestion.

4. Sesame seeds – The oily composition of sesame seeds works to moisturize the intestines, which can help if dry stools are a problem. Add the seeds to cereals or salads for crunch or pulverize them in a coffee grinder and sprinkle on food like a seasoning. This home remedy for constipation is a favorite of Amish and Chinese folk healers.

5. Prunes – These fiber-rich fruits are a go-to home remedy for getting your digestion back on track. Three prunes have 3 grams of fiber and they also contain a compound that triggers the intestinal contraction that makes you want to go. Another great dried fruit choice is figs, which may not cause as much bloating as prunes.
