Fibres are string like components derived from certain plants. These are indigestible portion found in the fruits, legumes, whole grains and vegetables. They are available in two forms-soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber can dissolve in water, fermented in colon and active byproducts; and help in movement of food through the body. On contrary, insoluble fiber are not soluble in water. It is metabolically inert and helps in fermenting process in large intestine. This absorbs water and makes it move through digestive system making defecation easy. This regulates stool and accelerates the movement of food throughout the body. Dietary fiber consists of cellulose, arabinoxylans, lignin, waxes, etc. These components have a number of health benefits and help in maintaining health body by lowering down the risk associated with heart diseases and diabetes.
